Galindo Aznárez and an unknown woman had a son, Aznar Galíndez II, his successor.He appears to have had at least one additional child: an 867 charter mentions a son-in-law, "king Sancho", whom several scholars have identified with the younger son of García Íñiguez of Pamplona, Sancho Garcés, father of Aznar Sánchez of Larraun and grandfather of queen Toda of Pamplona.

In the Middle Ages, a familiaris (plural familiares), more formally a familiaris regis ("familiar of the king") or familiaris curiae [1] ("of the court"), was, in the words of the historian W. L. Warren, "an intimate, a familiar resident or visitor in the [royal] household, a member of the familia, that wider family which embraces servants, confidents, and close associates."
Her father, Menendo, was a member of the curia regis of King Bermudo II of León and the tutor and co-regent, jointly with Queen Elvira Garcia, of Infante Alfonso, [3] [1] who later ruled as Alfonso V of León. Queen Elvira died on 2 December 1022 [4] and was buried in the Royal Pantheon of the Basilica of San Isidoro in León. [5]

He was the royal alférez, the king's armour-bearer (armiger regis) and commander of the royal armies, under Vermudo II (r. 984–999), and he continued to hold the position until his death. He became the tutor (1003) and ultimately father-in-law of Vermudo's successor, King Alfonso V .
