Праотцев и Троицкий монастырь), also known as Al Maskobiya [1] [2] (Arabic: كنيسة المسكوبية), is a Russian Orthodox monastery and church in Hebron, Palestine, founded in the 20th century on the site of the ancient Oak of Mamre.
The author of the project was German-Russian architect, Martin Eppinger. It was originally supposed to be consecrated as the church of St. Alexander Nevsky (the patron saint of Alexander II), but finally it was decided to dedicate it as the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. [2] In 1895 to 1897, the cathedral was renovated.
The large central dome of the Holy Trinity Cathedral represents Jesus Christ, while the four surrounding smaller domes represent the principle Apostles, Saint Matthew, Saint Mark, Saint Luke and Saint John. [7] The particular challenge to the architect and builder was to make the domes as light as possible, to avoid collapsing the building below.

During the 1890s, the church building was acquired by Lutherans and served as a Lutheran church until it was purchased by the Russian émigré community on February 9, 1919. The attendance started to decline in numbers after the 1930s due to many Russian-Americans in Baltimore moving to the suburbs, leaving a smaller, aging congregation.
