White Oak Lake is near the Poison Springs Battleground State Park, a Civil War battlefield. Completed in 1961, the lake is 19 miles southeast of Prescott, and 15 miles northwest of Camden, off State Highways 387 and 24. It is the second largest lake created by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, [1] at 1,656 acres (670 ha).
The portion of the state park within a 64-acre (26 ha) triangle formed by North Road on the northwest and Highway 62 was first listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970. The area of this district was increased in 1992 to 65.8 acres (26.6 ha) and then again in 2005 to 707.8 acres (286.4 ha). [1]
Tinaroo is located on the shore of Lake Tinaroo, a man-made reservoir created by the impoundment of the Barron River by the Tinaroo Dam. [4]Despite the town's name, the waterfall of the same name is not in the town nor the locality, but it is very close by in the neighbouring locality of Lake Tinaroo, which includes the dam wall, the lake it impounds and the shoreline around the lake.
