The station was built following the 1963 Skopje earthquake that hit on 26 July 1963 which destroyed the Original station buildings. The old station building has become a symbol of the earthquake, with the clock stopped at 5.17 and now houses the Museum of the City of Skopje (Muzej na grad Skopje).

Makedonski Železnici (MŽ; Macedonian: Македонски Железници (МЖ), "Macedonian Railways") was the public enterprise for railways in North Macedonia. In 2007 it was split into railway operation company Železnici na Republika Severna Makedonija Transport and the infrastructure company Makedonski Železnici Infrastruktura. [1]

Air transport. Air transport in North Macedonia began after the end of the First World War, when airmail traffic route was created between Novi Sad – Belgrade – Niš – Skoplje. [5] Later, the Yugoslav flag carrier Aeroput inaugurated in 1930 a regular scheduled flight between Belgrade and Thessaloniki with a stop in Skopje airfield.
Trainkos is a private railway company based in Kosovo that also serves as the national rail carrier of the country. Established in 2011 alongside Infrakos, the two companies are the successors of Kosovo Railways, a public company that was split up and privatized. Trainkos offers rail service for both passengers and freight. [1]
