Basically, I run an Instagram page that posts tons of obscure and lost rock and metal tunes from all kinds of different eras, but mostly 70's. There were a lot more great American bands out there than people think, but one state I can't find any from is the state where I reside: West Virginia. Not looking for country, or blues.
Bands like The Cure, Violent Femmes, The Replacements, or the Smiths. Unfortunately, the first thing for me that pops into mind when you bring the 80's is the over abundance of the "hair metal" bands that srprung up in the latter half of the decade.
Another forgotten band that had success in the 80s was Omar And The Howlers. They had been around for years but it wasn't until releasing Hard Times In The Land Of Plenty in 1987 that they got "noticed". Another one hit wonder that deserved better.
I Love Rock N' Roll - Joan Jett & The Blackhearts Caught Up in You - 38 Special Vacation - The Go-Go's Working For the Weekend - Loverboy Stone Cold - Rainbow There's Only One Way to Rock - Sammy Hagar Closer to the Heart - Rush Tainted Love - Soft Cell Flying High Again - Ozzy Osbourne 1983: Cum on Feel the Noize - Quiet Riot
Second, each person has his own musical experiences. My Eighties experience was an intense love for glam and hair bands. Sure I enjoyed some of the bands and songs you listed, and a lot of those songs are on my alternate list. If you could see my seventies list, you would be appalled. It would have a lot of Disco on the list.
You gotta love the way these boys rock their ‘staches and ‘80s sunglasses in the “Sabotage” video, as well as how the joke that was “(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!)” went over every frat boy’s head. But they really deserve a spot in the Hall of Fame for combining rock and rap and being taken seriously. Thin Lizzy
REM is (was) a fantastic band. While they represented the bright side to alternative rock, Husker Du was little bit more serious and much more darker. Zen Arcade is a masterpiece and nothing like it has been made since or before it. Though they may never make it into the RnR Hall Of Fame they still solidified their place in rock's history.
Although they released their 1st album in 1979, their biggest seller was in 1982. Axe is the group and Offering was the album. A very good hard rock album, they faded fast after it's release. They released one more album in the 80s and then nothing until the late 90s. Too bad really, they had a good sound.
