#1 · Jun 1, 2023. My vet has tried forever to get me to switch to dry dog food. Have always feed either fresh home delivery or home made recipe. I have used Farmers Dog and Ollie. I did give in to my Vets request for dry food. My 100+ pound dog is about 5 pounds over weight. What do others Vet think about fresh home delivery dog food.
After some research I learned that "human grade" and "less processed" foods like The Farmer's Dog and Ollie can lead to malnourishment and have made dogs sick. They aren't a science and research-driven food brand like other established brands (Purina, Wellness, etc).
Lots of dogs can have issues with specific foods, and that doesn’t necessarily mean the food is bad. Lots of other issues — especially stuff in the ears and skin, is often assigned as a problem with the food when it isn’t related at all. Most bacterial and fungal issues are not food related.
My pup absolutely loved Farmer’s Dog food, ate her food completely at each meal, and her poops were perfect and firm (although pretty stinky). She gained some needed weight on it too. It also almost completely cleared up a pimply/cystic skin issue that I didn’t realize was being caused by her prior kibble food.
