Years ago I would play a set of very heavy Degan orch bells with the birds. They seemed especially fond of the maj 6th especially when I trilled the two notes! I also discovered that there was a tribe in Africa that had a wooden "keyboard" type of instrumen based on bird songs of their region. I think it had 16 tones.
If I remember right, on allaboutbirds: Bird Academy Play Lab, there is a free learning game called 'Bird Song Hero' that lets you download common bird songs for North American regions at the end.

A bit of both, mostly learnt. It's like 85% learnt 15% DNA. If a bird is taken from its parents before hatching and raised without any other bird influence it will make A song, if you continue to do this for multiple generations eventually they'll return to their song of their natural brothers.
So, yes, bird calls almost certainly drift and change over time. Not just long periods of time, but short ones too. Study of bird songs show that they do change over time. A 30 year study of a particular population of savannah sparrows show that songs change slightly as each generation learns them, like a game of telephone.
Seeing as my last tier list post generated so much attention and, more importantly, discussion, I decided to make yet another tier post. This one is of all the bird songs I have ever heard in my 5 odd years or so of birding. The tier list is also in order, birds are not placed in at random. But before you continue, some details to share… 1.
Dendroica . I don't have any high tech advice, but if you're passionate about birds and/or hiking/nature, simply going birding often enough will help you learn their songs. If you keep a "life list" of all of the birds in your country, it's fun to go hiking and try to see as many of the birds on the list as you can.
