It is second hand and has an inexpensive CP 3-9 40 scope on it. My CZ MTR 22LR has the Nikon Prostaff Rimfire 3-9 x 40 on it and the comparison was what night and day better for the discontinued ProStaff.

Hopefully this helps some of those who are not getting some AI mags to work, or even those who aren't able to get the conversion to work at all.
I've changed about a zillion barrels back and forth on my benchrest rifles. There we clamp the barrel and put a wrench through the action. The Ruger's flat sided action looks deceivingly like something that could be secured in a vice and a band wrench used to crack the nut loose. The right tools and go gauges could make for a lot o fun.
Ruger American Generation II Ranch 6mm ARC Cobalt Cerakote Bolt Action Rifle - 16.1in - The Ruger American Gen II Ranch bolt is CNC machined from stainless steel for smooth operation and the familiar three-lug design with a 70 degree throw provides ample scope clearance. www.sportsmans.com.
Load up the mag. With mag outside the gun, manually unload the mag by pushing rounds back to front like the bolt would do. (may have to use eraser end of pencil as there should be some resistance). As you push the round, once you get it started , it should come out of the mag smoothly.
Oh, and another plug for Promag 10-round magazines. I wasted so much time and effort trying to make the garbage Ruger brand 10-rounders work. Those terrible magazines almost made me give up on the rifle. The Promags have worked perfectly and now the Ruger American, with its high-reliability and excellent accuracy, is my go-to rifle.
Like Fasteddie, I have a Gen 1 Ruger American Ranch in 7.62X39 and for some odd reason, it is exceptionally accurate with cheap Wolf 123 gr HP ammo. Bought it because of the affordable price and was pleasantly surprised with the unexpected accuracy. If you are uncertain about the Gen 2 rifles, search around for Gen 1 rifles still in inventory ...

Better stock (wood or synthetic, either way M77 is better), better action, better finish, and more attention to detail and QC. Trigger- American for sure. While the M77 trigger is decent, the American's trigger is incredible. Rifle longevity- Goes hand-in-hand with reliability, winner is the M77.

I'm getting just under 1.2" 200 yard groups out of my American Rifle .308 using 155 A-Max over CFE223 and .7 @100 yds the most acurate was going over the Chrony at 2700 fps. I'm gonna try and get back to the farm soon and do some 300 and 400 yard shots.
