Wanneroo Raceway, currently known as CARCO.com.au Raceway for naming rights reasons, is a 2.411 km (1.498 mi) motorsport circuit located in Neerabup, approximately 50-kilometre (31 mi) north of Perth in Western Australia.
The Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Australia is a sports car racing series open to drivers of Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars. The series was first held in 2008 to fill the void between club racing and the Australian Carrera Cup Championship and Australian GT Championship for Porsche owners. [ 1 ]
The club was involved in the development of flying mile speed contests in 1932, [1] as well as the Albany Speed Classic in 1936. In the 1930s, activities included hill climbs, [2] open events, [3] organisation of country events, [4] speed tests, [5] and trials, [6] including events previously run by the Royal Automobile Club of Western Australia.
There was a financial crisis, yet the club survived. By the 1980s, the Western Australian Club was no longer strictly a "gentlemen's club". Women were full members. Pastoralist and country members were less than one fifth of membership. Despite the changes, many traditional aspects of the club were maintained. In 1988 the club president wrote, [2]
Both combined races were won by Australian entrants. In 2017, the Australian series travelled to Asia to contest a similar joint round at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia. The 2004 Australian Carrera Cup Championship was a CAMS sanctioned motor racing competition open to Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars. [1] The championship, which was the second Australian Carrera Cup Championship, [2] was contested over a nine round series and was administered by CupCar Australia Pty Ltd. [1] Alex Davison won the title from Jim Richards and Fabian Coulthard.
