The Storm King Highway is a three-mile (4.8 km) segment of New York State Route 218 (NY 218) between Lee Road in the Town of Highlands at the south end and the Cornwall-on-Hudson village line in Orange County, New York, in the United States.
Washington Road connects NY 218 to West Point via Washington Gate, while NY 218 proceeds north through Highlands. NY 218 winds north and northwest along the border of West Point, crossing through a section of the military academy.
The section of New York State Route 218 that winds around the eastern slope of the mountain overlooking the River Hudson was originally named the Storm King Highway. That name is often used presently for the four-lane section of U.S. Route 9W to the west, with Route 218 referred to as the Old Storm King Highway.
After becoming a four-lane expressway, NY 218 (Storm King Highway), the former route of US 9W, forks off to the right, carrying traffic to Highland Falls and the U.S. Military Academy (USMA) at West Point. US 9W then starts to climb the highlands above the village and the academy.
