The Single-Six proved to be a popular seller, leading Ruger to develop and market a centerfire revolver similar to the Single Action Army: the Ruger Blackhawk. Ruger introduced the Blackhawk in 1955. A carbine (/ ˈ k ɑːr b iː n / or / ˈ k ɑːr b aɪ n /), [1] from French carabine, [2] is a long arm firearm but with a shorter barrel than a rifle or musket. [3] Many carbines are shortened versions of full-length rifles, shooting the same ammunition, while others fire lower-powered ammunition, typically ranging from pistol/PDW to intermediate rifle cartridges.
Another similar cartridge is the .30 Carbine, which has been offered in Ruger's single-action Blackhawk revolver line since 1968. [19] However, the .327 Federal Magnum has a higher maximum pressure (45,000 psi (310 MPa)) than the .30 Carbine (40,000 psi (280 MPa)).
