Joseph Brant, Mohawk Indian, was a Mohawk military and political leader, based in present-day New York, who was closely associated with Great Britain during and after the American Revolution. He and his family were from Canajoharie, New York. Charles Couch, Wisconsin state legislator, was born in Mohawk in Montgomery County in 1833.
