Saint Xavier University was founded as a women's college by the Sisters of Mercy in 1846 at the request of Bishop William Quarter.With the City of Chicago less than 10 years old, the religious sisters, under the guidance of Mother Mary Francis Xavier Warde, R.S.M., established Saint Francis Xavier Female Academy.

It was founded by the Jesuits on 2 January 1869. The college is affiliated with the University of Mumbai offering undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Arts, Science, Commerce and Management. [4] [5] [6] Xavier's was the first college to be granted autonomy by the University of Mumbai in 2010. [7]
Mount Saint Vincent University is the only university in Canada to offer a Master of Public Relations program (MPR). [12] The MPR program graduated its first class in October 2009. [ 13 ] The Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) recognizes MSVU's MPR program for excellence in PR education in its Pathways to the Profession guide.
