The Sun automobile of Toledo was a small two-seat roadster, with power coming from a 12 hp (9 kW) four-cylinder engine, produced in 1921 and 1922 only. It featured a 91-inch (2311 mm) wheelbase, disc wheels, and a claimed 50 miles per US gallon (4.7 L/100 km; 60 mpg ‑imp ) and 50 mph (80 km/h).

After Rapp left the company (immediately it was renamed BMW) he became chief engineer and head of the Aeroengine Department of the L.A. Riedlinger Machine Factory where he was probably employed until October 1923. Rapp lived in Switzerland from 1934, running a small observatory making solar observations. Karl Friedrich Rapp died in 1962 in Locarno.
Karl Rapp and Julius Auspitzer founded Rapp Motorenwerke GmbH on 27 October 1913 with a capital stock of RM 200,000. The company was established in Milbertshofen on the former site of the Munich branch of Flugwerk Deutschland GmbH, a firm at which Karl Rapp had held a leading position and that had gone into liquidation in the summer of 1913. The GT was reengineered and so it was built with a BMW engine and rear axle and sold as BMW 1600 GT until 1968. The V8 got a bigger engine constructed by Glas and was also sold until 1968 as BMW-GLAS 3000 V8. The 1700 sedan was built and sold by a South African importer with several changes as BMW 1800 SA until 1974.
The BMW Z1 is the first model in BMW's line of Z series roadsters (two-seater convertibles), and was produced in limited numbers from 1989 to 1991. The Z1 is unique for its plastic body panels and vertically sliding doors which drop into the door sills.
