Squidward Tentacles gets a call from his wealthy former high school classmate and rival, Squilliam Fancyson, who has succeeded in everything in which Squidward has failed, including music. Squilliam has become the leader of a band scheduled to play at a venue called the Bubble Bowl but tells Squidward he will be busy at that time and cannot attend.

Mr. Krabs [3] is commonly known as the greedy founder and owner of the Krusty Krab restaurant, where SpongeBob works as a fry cook [8] and Squidward works as a cashier.The restaurant's success is built on little competition and the popularity of the Krusty Krab's signature sandwich, the Krabby Patty, the formula to which is a closely guarded trade secret. After Mr. Krabs leaves to count the day's profits, Patrick arrives and orders a Krabby Patty, and is hurled from the establishment upon a primarily unseen, and audibly manic, reprise of SpongeBob's cooking feat. The pilot ends with Squidward calling for Mr. Krabs in the hopes of getting SpongeBob in trouble for the presumed mess he has created.
Squidward does not believe that the toy has special powers and tries to find a way out on his own. While Squidward fails every time, SpongeBob and Patrick are rewarded with a full buffet that falls out of a descending airplane. Squidward wants the food, but this fails every time when the conch refuses to allow Squidward to have the food.
In the episode, Squidward and SpongeBob are forced to work 24 hours a day by their boss Mr. Krabs. Squidward soon becomes bored, and tells SpongeBob a ghost story to scare him off the night shift. When SpongeBob begins to panic, Squidward tells him that the story is fictional. However, later that night, the events of the story begin to occur.
Bubble Bass ends up being a constant annoyance to Squidward on the train, and the two get booted off after not having tickets, as they fly out the window.
