The Waggoner Ranch is a historic ranch located 13 miles south of Vernon, Texas, in north Texas near the Red River and Oklahoma border. Founded in 1852 by Daniel Waggoner, [2] it is the largest ranch within one fence in the United States. [3] [4] The land has been used to raise crops, beef cattle, and horses and to produce oil.
Stablewood was developed on the family country estate of Harry C. Wiess. [4] The Wiess family had owned an interest in the land since the 1920s. [5] The estate included a house designed by John Staub in 1930. [4] The stable, which the Wiess family had converted into a party house, is located on a dedicated 3-acre (1.2 ha) site. [5]
