3k. Posted October 21, 2023. Nice couple fish. I was walking the beaches in Eastern CT earlier this week. Only caught a small bass but there were some Albies around but no love. Small fast moving pods on what looked to be really small bait made it tough. I did see a few nice blackfish caught off the beach.
They overhype everything, besides non-storm wind, which they underestimate 9 times out of 10. The weather forecast today was terrible. Was supposed to be light wind but was blowing 20-30. WTF. Found a few keeper tog around 20’ deep. A lot of tog in the 15” range and also a ton of small seabass up to 15”.
EBHarvey. Administrators. 45.8k. Location: Killingworth, CT. Posted June 29, 2006. Pissing off ignorant beach-house folk is one of the added joys of fishing the CT shoreline. I've done stuff I ain't proud of, and the stuff I am proud of is disgusting.
Accebere. I only fish for stripers and the fishing for me has been hot and cold. If you do find fish, they are healthy, fat and strong which make really fun to catch. Biggest for the season so far is about 35# and lost a couple of bigger ones in the rocks. Seen a bunch of bunker, but they haven’t been schooled up.
Brother in law and I have been fishing the sound for 5-6 years at this point and still have yet to put one in the boat. Last year brought on of the wives friends husband and he pulled one up in what we considered a "no mans land".
I had like 6 short fluke as bycatch jigging and hi-lo fishing for porgies, but none when I actually put on a bucktail and gulp and drifted. Go figure. Lost a few gulp tails though, probably to snappers. In retrospect, I probably should have chunked a porgy or the dogfish and put it out on a circle and fishfinder for blues.
Conservation law enforcement are currently concentrating on education and outreach, rather than punishment, to increase public awareness of the regulation. It will certainly be tough to enforce, as intent to catch striped bass must be shown. Circle hooks must be used when striper fishing with bait of any kind or form.
Report. Posted August 26, 2001. Well, stayed in CT yesterday b/c I couldn't escape...the !@#$ powerball thrill seekers were jammin up the interstates. I kid you not! Went to Sherwood Island State Park (Westport...that's exit 18 off of I-95). Fished the afternoon flood from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
At the request of @thebigangrybear last year I am creating a dedicated thread to CT guys doing some blue water water fishing. A buddy and I doubled up on poppers this past weekend. My fish took a smoking run to the point I thought it was foul hooked. I managed to gaff his fish with one hand while staying tight on mine.
