Vernon Lake is a man-made lake in Vernon Parish, Louisiana. In 1963, Vernon Lake was created by the impounding of Anacoco Creek (Anacoco Bayou), creating a 4,200 acres (1,700 ha) lake for the purpose of water supply and recreation. The lake is 5 miles (8.0 km) west of Leesville, and 8 miles (13 km) north of Anacoco Lake.
Isolated in a rural area, it is a popular man-made fishing area that has a combined estimated area of 15,250 acres (62 km 2). The lake was first conceived in 1957. The 2,450 feet (750 m) long concrete dam was built in 1961 by the Louisiana Department of Public Works and the resulting lake took shape by 1963 behind the 54 feet (16 m) tall dam.
