Kamalesh Maitra (28 April 1928 – 22 April 2005), often referred to by the title Pandit, was an Indian classical musician, composer and teacher.He is recognised as the last master of the tabla tarang – a melodic percussion instrument consisting of numerous individually tuned hand drums, set in a semicircle.

The pat waing (Burmese: ပတ်ဝိုင်း) or pat wang (Mon: ဗာတ်ဝိုၚ်) is a set of 21 pitched hand drums (similar in appearance to Indian tabla drums) used in the Burmese folk musical ensemble (hsaing waing). This instrument has been adapted into the Thai piphat mon ensemble, where it is called poeng mang.
The Loh Tarang is a melodic percussion instrument. It consists of a set of iron circular plates, of different sizes, held in a frame. Each plate is pitched to a note and they are struck with sticks on each hand. 'Tarang' literally means waves. Plates sound depends on the different size of plate and hand movement.
