"Ordinary Day" is a song written and performed by Vanessa Carlton from her 2002 debut album, Be Not Nobody. Carlton wrote the song when she was 17 and was the first song that she had ever written in only one sitting.
O'Riordan sometimes sang the song live in concerts with The Cranberries. The Cranberries perform "Ordinary Day" in a 2010 concert in Chile [5] that was filmed for television. [6] The Cranberries also performed the song at a 2012 London concert, and this version is available on their live album, Live at the Hammersmith Apollo, London 2012. [7]

That story was part of the inspiration for their song "Ordinary Day". It was later revealed (and confirmed by Alan Doyle at the 2019 Juno Awards "Songwriter Circle") that the girl was Calgary singer/songwriter Jann Arden. In this song, Alan and his writing partner, Séan McCann, use the name as "Janie". A music video was released for this single.

The song was written by guitarist John Petrucci. He wrote it about his father, John Petrucci Sr. who was diagnosed with cancer. Petrucci Sr. would be the subject of another Dream Theater song, "Take Away My Pain" following his death. The video for Another Day follows the song's lyrics, with a father and son spending time together.
