Jaguar made several fundamental changes to the design of the IRS for the new XJ40 model, launched in 1986. The shape of the subframe changed to an approximate triangle, bolted to the front of the differential and attached to the car at approximately the same points as the radius arms of the first generation IRS.

The AJ6 was designed to replace the successful and long-used Jaguar XK6 engine, and was introduced in 1984. It was only the third all-new engine ever designed by the company.
The company was founded in 1998, as Alliance Brand Parts, and is a division of Daimler Truck North America LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of the German company, Daimler Truck AG.
