"Walking on Sunshine" is a song written by Kimberley Rew for British rock band Katrina and the Waves' 1983 eponymous debut full-length album. The rerecorded version was at first released on the band's 1985 self-titled album as the album's second single and reached No. 4 in Australia, No. 9 in the United States and No. 8 in the United Kingdom.
Walking on Sunshine is a 2014 British romantic jukebox musical comedy-drama film directed by Max Giwa and Dania Pasquini. The film features covers of songs from the 1980s and was released on 27 June 2014. It is also a debut role for singer-songwriter Leona Lewis.
The original version of the song appeared on Katrina and the Waves' 1982 EP Shock Horror! (with the band then simply named the Waves). Soon thereafter, they re-recorded the song for inclusion on their 1983 debut full-length album Walking on Sunshine, which was only released in Canada.
A follow-up single to "Walking on Sunshine" called "Do You Want Crying" (written by de la Cruz) also became a top 40 US hit, reaching no. 37 in the late summer of 1985. However, the band's follow-up album to Katrina and the Waves (simply entitled Waves ) did not meet with the same measure of success, either critically or commercially.
