The Kendall tournament opens the season, and the Alaska Goal Rush is played in the second week. The tournament is held at the Carlson Center in Fairbanks, Alaska, and is hosted by University of Alaska-Fairbanks hockey team. The tournament takes place over two days and follows a round robin format.

Alaska, originally Alaska Agricultural College, began playing ice hockey in 1925. However, due to being so far away from any other college team, the program had difficulty finding opponents. This was a contributing factor in the school suspending its ice hockey program several times over the next 50 years.
The Alaska Nanooks are the intercollegiate athletics teams that represent the University of Alaska Fairbanks. The Nanooks name is derived from the Inupiaq "nanuq", meaning polar bear. The school colors are blue and gold. [2] The Nanooks compete at the NCAA Division II level for all sports except men's ice hockey (NCAA Division I).

This is a list of seasons completed by the University of Alaska Fairbanks men's ice hockey team.. Alaska has made two NCAA tournament appearances in its history. However, as a result of NCAA rules violations, the berth in 2010 has been vacated and Alaska officially has never played in a Division I national tournament.
