"In fact, the Ford Escape Hybrid will be able to go as fast as 25 mph without burning a drop of fuel, albeit for short distances." "The Escape Hybrid can be driven up to 25 miles on electric power alone, thus using no gasoline and causing no emissions." One caveat: The "electric only at slow speeds" MIGHT only happen after the truck is warmed up.
I have a 2005 ford escape hybrid and after reading some of the post on this site i have found out that there is a fan that cools the battery in the back.Every now and then in the summer months i hear a sound that sounds like a clutch slipping on an Ac compressor but the Ac up front is fine.I am now thinking it is the fan for the back battery ...
"Escape Hybrid and Toyota Prius are basically at the same level right now. Ford and Toyota both use the SAME eCVT (electronic continually variable transmission) from Aisen. The eCVT is what makes the Ford and Toyota "full hybrids" as opposed to the mild hybrids offered by Honda and GM". Be careful with how you discuss the eCVTs.
I am interested in the 2003/2004 Ford Escape Hybrid. I need an small SUV or wagon with room for 2 big dogs or cargo, room for a roof rack, and capable of towing 1,000 - 2,000 lbs. I want a vehicle with very good gas mileage (drive about 50k/year) and current SUVs and wagons aren't too good.
I was a proud 2005 Ford Escape hybrid owner until April when the ABS brake moduel had to be replaced. Which took a week because the specially trained HYBRID mechanic didn't know how to bleed the brakes. Since then, the gas engine comes on at 10 MPH upon very light exceleration all the time now.
I have also had brake failure on a 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid. Two weeks ago, at 50,000 miles and just back from the dealer's service, the brakes failed at start-up: very little braking action and a warning on the dash. I drove it around the block and went through four stop signs. I had it towed back to the dealer, where it has been ever since.

Yesterday as I was driving at 40 miles an hour on a commerical strip the brake warning light on our 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid suddenly flashed at the same time that the brakes completely failed. Just missed a number of cars but was able to get into a parking lot, shift to low, and run uphill into a curb. 45 minutes later no light and the brakes ...
We have a 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid with 37,000 miles which spends most of its time in the shop or riding around on the back of a tow truck. Our Escape was an insurance write off at 2300 miles and we bought it at 3,000 miles total time running and repaired without warranty.
Just want to know what happens to the car when the hybrid battery fails and if its consistent with what happened to my car. You need to take it to a dealer and pay the 99 bucks or so to diagnose it. The computer will have put a code into the system that will determine the problem.
