An important influence that can be seen in the magazine is from the Dutch artist Theo Van Doesburg. He formulated in “Basis of the Concrete painting”, in Paris, April 1930. [5] Van Doesburg described concrete art by stating, "1) Art is universal. 2) The work of art must be conceived and entirely shaped by the spirit before its execution.

Op art, short for optical art, is a style of visual art that uses optical illusions. [1] Op artworks are abstract, with many better-known pieces created in black and white. Typically, they give the viewer the impression of movement, hidden images, flashing and vibrating patterns, or swelling or warping.
The artist was an "artist-in-residence" in the early days of Milton Keynes and part of her role was to lead community participation in art. The Cows was one of a number of pieces created during her stay. [3] Other examples of her work here include The Owl and The Pussy Cat at Netherfield and a concrete mural near the leisure centre at Stantonbury.
Lygia Pape (7 April 1927 – 3 May 2004) was a Brazilian visual artist, sculptor, engraver, and filmmaker, who was a key figure in the Concrete movement and a later co-founder of the Neo-Concrete Movement in Brazil during the 1950s and 1960s. [1]
