APA style (also known as APA format) is a writing style and format for academic documents such as scholarly journal articles and books. It is commonly used for citing sources within the field of behavioral and social sciences , including sociology, education, nursing, criminal justice, anthropology, and psychology.
Articles on topics with strong ties to a particular English-speaking country (see Wikipedia:Manual of Style § Strong national ties to a topic) should generally use the date format most commonly used in that country. For the United States this is MDY (July 4, 1976) For most other English-speaking countries it is DMY (4 July 1976).

When the United States is mentioned with one or more other countries in the same sentence, US (or U.S.) may be too informal, especially at the first mention or as a noun instead of an adjective (France and the United States, not France and the US). Do not use the spaced U. S. or the archaic U.S. of A., except when quoting.
Wikipedia:Manual of Style says: When referring to the United States, using "U.S." rather than "US" makes it easier to search for automatically. When referring to the United States in a long abbreviation (USA, USN, USAF), stops (periods) should not be used.
