Balete, officially the Municipality of Balete (Tagalog: Bayan ng Balete), is a municipality in the province of Batangas, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 24,055 people. [3] The people from Balete is called Baleteños. Balete is well known for its location on Taal Lake, providing a panoramic view of the Taal Volcano.
San Nicolas welcome arch at its boundary with Taal. According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, the municipality has a land area of 14.37 square kilometers (5.55 sq mi) [15] constituting 0.46% of the 3,119.75-square-kilometer (1,204.54 sq mi) total area of Batangas.
The district consists of the northern Batangas cities of Santo Tomas and Tanauan, as well as adjacent municipalities surrounding the Taal Lake: Agoncillo, Alitagtag, Balete, Cuenca, Laurel, Malvar, Mataasnakahoy, San Nicolas, Santa Teresita and Talisay, a configuration that has been in place since 1987.

Local elections will be held in the province of Batangas on May 12, 2025, as part of the 2025 general election. Voters will select candidates for all local positions: a town mayor, vice mayor and town councilors, as well as members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, the vice-governor, governor and representatives for the six districts of Batangas.
Three barangays are currently unpopulated, all on Taal Volcano Island, Barangays Alas-as and Pulang Bato in San Nicolas, and Calawit in Balete, all in Batangas, due to the 2020–2022 Taal Volcano eruptions. San Nicolas mayor Lester de Sagun questioned the holding of elections in those two barangays as it has been unpopulated for three years.
