In 1892, before she had completed her sculpture course, she won first prize in the Columbus Quadricentennial Art Contest for a wax bust of Christopher Columbus. It was awarded by Governor General Eulogio Despujol y Dusay. [4] For her bust, Pelagia also won second prize at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition. [1]
Federico Rodrigo Martín Sánchez Ochando y Chumillas (14 March 1848 – 2 February 1929) was a Spanish general and politician who served as the 110th Governor-General of the Philippines, Deputy and Senator of Albacete, and Vice President of the Senate of Spain. Ochando was an illustrious and decorated general with a prolific career in politics.
He was on his way to Cuba for a volunteer medical mission when he was imprisoned under the orders of Governor-General Eulogio Despujol. 6 October 1896 – Rizal was sent back to the Philippines as a prisoner. 25 October 1896 – Governor-General Blanco included Zambales, Bataan and Sibugay provinces under the state of war.
