The 2023 New Zealand census, which took place on 7 March 2023, [1] was the thirty-fifth national census in New Zealand.It implemented measures that aimed to increase the Census' effectiveness in response to the issues faced with the 2018 census, including supporting Māori to complete the census.

It works on the SA2 areas I've tried it on, and also on SA3 and larger areas, except that the first paragraph uses {{NZ population data 2023 SA2}} and that will need to be altered to use {{NZ population data 2018}} for some areas, and scrapped for those that the 2018 template doesn't support. The maps below (taken from 2013 census data [64]) show the percentages of people in each census area unit identifying themselves as European, Māori, Asian, or Pacific Islander (as defined by Statistics New Zealand). As people could identify themselves with multiple groups, percentages are not cumulative.
