The 2024 Southeastern Conference football season is the 92nd season of Southeastern Conference (SEC) football and part of the 2024 NCAA Division I FBS football season. This is the SEC's first season with 16 teams with the additions of Texas and Oklahoma, and its first season since 1991 with a non-divisional scheduling format.
On July 21, 2021, the Houston Chronicle reported that Oklahoma and Texas had approached the Southeastern Conference (SEC) about the possibility of joining that league. [8] On July 26, Oklahoma and Texas notified the Big 12 Conference that the two schools did not wish to extend their grant of television rights beyond the 2024–25 athletic year and intended to leave the conference. In 2023, the SEC announced the divisional split would be scrapped when Oklahoma and Texas join in 2024. The conference schedule will remain at 8 games in the 2024 and 2025 seasons while the SEC determines its long-term football scheduling format. Teams will play the same opponents in both seasons on a home-and-home basis.
