ADCs, which can handle many different medications, are available from a number of manufacturers such as BD, ARxIUM, and Omnicell.
Pyxis Corporation was a San Diego company co-founded by Ronald R. Taylor and investor Tim Wollaeger in 1987. The company is the first to develop MedStation products in 1990 and is also a market leader for automated medication management, [1] developing an automated dispensing cabinet under the name Pyxis.
It also included Cardinal's automated dispensing cabinet line, which had been acquired when Cardinal bought Pyxis Corporation in 1996 for $920 million. [1] Pyxis had been founded in San Diego by Ronald R. Taylor and investor Tim Wollaeger in 1987 and had around 1,500 employees when it was acquired. [ 3 ]
Sales figures reached $7.7 million by the end of 1995 and increased the following year to $21.5 million. The company expanded services by developing pharmacy automation systems for dispensing medications in 1996. They expanded their product line in 1999 by acquiring the SureMed line of pharmacy cabinets from Baxter Healthcare Corp. [2]
