The college originated as Hampshire's first Farm School, set up by the County Council at Lower Mill Farm, Old Basing near Basingstoke in 1899. This replaced some peripatetic agricultural training using horse drawn vans which had been operating since 1891. [1] It moved to its present site at Westley Farm, Sparsholt in 1914. [2]
Sparsholt (/ˈspɑːʃəʊlt/) is a village and civil parish in Hampshire, England, 2 + 1 ⁄ 2 miles (4 km) west of Winchester. In 1908 its area was 3,672 acres (1,486 ha). [ 1 ] The 2011 Census recorded its population as 982.
Oaklands Roman Catholic Comprehensive School and Sixth Form College is a co-educational secondary school and sixth form college with academy status located in Waterlooville, Hampshire. [2] It opened in 1966, although its history can be traced back to 1902. [3] Around 1400 students attend the main school with over 150 in the sixth form college.

The eldest son of the Scottish politician and clergyman Edward Stewart, he was born in Sparsholt, Hampshire on 30 June 1843. [3] He was the grandson of Edward Richard Stewart and great-grandson of John Stewart, 7th Earl of Galloway. [4] His mother was of Irish extraction, hailing from a County Kerry family. [5]
David E Johnston is a classical archaeologist and former lecturer at the University of Southampton. [1] His excavations have included the Sparsholt Roman Villa, and he has authored numerous books and research papers on Roman archaeology, art and mosaics from the 1960s to the 2010s.
