SR 240 was established in 1946 along an alignment from Fountainville to Tazewell. [2] [3] By 1960, the section from the Macon-Schley County line to Tazewell was paved.[5] [6] By 1963, the remainder of the original segment of the road, Fountainville to the Macon-Schley County line, was paved.
Schley County (/ s l aɪ / SLY) [1] is a county located in the west-central portion of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 U.S. census, its population was 4,547. [2] The county seat is Ellaville. [3] Schley County is part of the Americus, GA micropolitan statistical area. It is named in honor of Governor William Schley. [1]

Murrays Crossroads (also Murray, Murrays Cross Roads, and Poindexter) was an unincorporated community in Schley County, Georgia, United States. It was located at the intersection of U.S. Route 19 with State Route 240, to the north of the city of Ellaville, the county seat of Schley County. [1] The elevation of the location is 440 feet (134 m). [2]
