Berry Hill is a village in Gloucestershire, England, 1.5 miles north of the town of Coleford. Berry Hill includes the settlements of Five Acres to the east, Christchurch in the centre, Shortstanding to the north, and Joyford to the north-east. Berry Hill is within the civil parish of West Dean.
When the league system was established in 1987, Berry Hill was placed in South West 2. It was a successful season for the club as not only did they win promotion [1] but Berry Hill also reached the last 16 of the John Player Cup. [2] Four seasons later they were promoted to the national divisions and played in 1992–93 Courage National 4 South.
The school was opened in 1914 as a small secondary school which was intended to serve only Berry Hill and Coleford. Known as Five Acres Council School, it opened in 1914 with new buildings at Five Acres capable of accommodating 260 students.
Coleford had eight or more houses in 1349 and was described as a street in 1364. It had a place of worship by 1489. In 1642 the commander of a parliamentary garrison in Coleford started a market in the town, as the nearest chartered market in Monmouth was under royalist control.
