Originally chartered in 1878 as the Morris County State Bank, in 1900 it received a national charter as the Council Grove National Bank. After a fire in 1886, the bank commissioned architect J. H. Leedy and builder Louis Peterson, both of Council Grove for a new building which was completed April 28, 1887.

Diamond Springs takes its name from a stream which was a landmark and watering place for travelers on the Santa Fe Trail, which is located approximately four miles north on private property. [ 2 ] The post office in Diamond Springs was discontinued in 1930.

[4] It was named after an agreement between American settlers and the Osage Nation allowing settlers' wagon trains to pass westward through the area on the Santa Fe Trail.
