Bexhill was the location for the first motor race in the United Kingdom, in May 1902. [26] Signs at the town's outskirts have the text "Birthplace of British Motor Racing" appended below the town's name. The Bexhill 100 Festival of Motoring, held on Bexhill's seafront, celebrated this important milestone in motoring history from 1990 until 2002.
Bexhill Station is the third station on this site. The present station was opened in June 1902 and replaced a previous station positioned on both sides of the track across the top of Devonshire Road. The new station had exceptionally long platforms, approximately 960 yards.

Bexhill Football Club was formed in May 1927 through the amalgamation of East Sussex League clubs Bexhill Town and Bexhill United. [1] [2] The new club was admitted into the Sussex County league for the 1927–28 season alongside Bognor and Haywards Heath, taking the places of Shoreham, Hastings & St Leonards and Allen West from Brighton.
The new Bexhill terminus would be 62 miles (100 km) from Charing Cross, while the LB&SCR's station was 71.75 miles (115.47 km) from Victoria. At Bexhill the land begins to rise again where the sands and clays of the Weald meet the sea; these culminate in the sandstone cliffs east of Hastings. Further east are the Pett Levels, more marshland, beyond which is the estuary of the River Rother .
