  2. 5e Feats - by Mike Merls | Original D&D Discussion

    odd74.proboards.com/thread/10193/5e-feats-mike-merls

In portraying Kel, the Lucky feat fits him like a glove. As an adept of chaos, he constantly puts himself into dangerous positions—such as wearing a crown of ultimate evil or demanding an audience with the tyrannical overlord of a city—only to have things bounce his way. Fortune favors a fool, at least in Kel’s case.

  3. Negative Racial Ability Score Modifiers Officially Removed

    odd74.proboards.com/thread/14458/negative-ability-modifiers-officially-removed

Side note: Natural ability scores can be as high as 20 in 5E (+5 mod), which means the overall power level is a little higher than in previous editions (not speaking of 4E, which I never played). If you point-buy your ability scores and max out your prime ability, you can start with a score of 17 (16) if your race gets a +2 (+1) score modifier ...

  4. Making 5E run faster | Original D&D Discussion

    odd74.proboards.com/thread/14652/5e-run-faster?page=2

Back on the main topic, definitely study the DMG for tips on faster combat. It's been about a year and a half since I ran 5e but the last ten or twelve sessions I ran, I was using average damage for monster attacks instead of rolling, to name one. The fewer dice you roll per combat round, the faster combat is, for better or worse.

  5. Classes vs Skills vs Point Buy | Original D&D Discussion -...

    odd74.proboards.com/thread/15649/classes-skills-point-buy

As I remember it, Backgrounds allow access to spell-casting and you can't just grab a Magic Initiate feat at 1st level for anyone, as you could in 5E. That said, munchkinism and min-maxing is not a thing of modern editions, it just got easier to do and the mentality of modern players is often more inclined towards the power-gaming aspect, at ...

  6. The feat you're remembering is the classic Great Cleave, but keep in mind that the chain only continues as long as you can continue scoring killing blows, and you can only use it as many times as there are enemies currently within your weapon's reach since you're not allowed to move at all between swings.

  7. 5E no-Clerics healing | Original D&D Discussion

  8. Think of it as three items per side, at 2 o'clock, 3 o'clock, 4 o'clock, 8 o'clock, 9 o'clock, and 10 o'clock. You can't carry items too far behind you because they would be unreachable, and the 11 to 1 o'clock positions would be in the way. So, really, you could have six daggers ready to draw from your belt and throw, maybe another four to six ...

  9. Discussion: Is Rule Zero passé? | Original D&D Discussion

    odd74.proboards.com/thread/16454/discussion-rule-zero-pass

Add to this You Tube channels doing this exact same thing and hours and hours of online videos on every last rule aspect and feat and skill aspect and you have built a Frankenstein monster that is the modern ttrpg market. I myself have dipped by toes in such behavior playing Foul Monstrosities such as 5E and Pathfinder 1/2E!

  10. FAQ: What scale (1:20 or 1:1) is the Fantasy Supplement?

    odd74.proboards.com/thread/13836/faq-scale-20-fantasy-supplement

S&S is structured to allow the use of 1:10 scale figures and 1:1 scale figures representing high-level fighters, magic-users, and clerics -- whether player characters or not -- in the same engagement! The Dragon #15 article, "D&D Ground and Spell Area Scale" (June 1978): The "Fantasy Supplement" was an outgrowth of the medieval rules and the ...

  11. Edition Wars! | Original D&D Discussion

    odd74.proboards.com/thread/15716/edition-wars?page=3

A small number have some secondary prereq, but again pretty much all of those can be satisfied by a single feat. Note that there are no feat "trees" like in 3.5 and by the time you're choosing your paragon path, you'll have had the chance to choose seven feats. Vanishingly few things in 4E that have more than two prereqs.
