The hard pull is likely unavoidable but HPs aren't the end of the world especially if you concentrate them together for auto loan shopping. You also have the option of letting the loan offer & check lapse and won't have a new account if you can find better loan terms. Figured I'd mention this if it applied to what you want to do; probably not ...
It has been a while but a few months ago I had a CapOne Auto Navigator preapproval and the cars at Carmax were 2 points higher on the rate. Don't know if this is still the case. About to purchase a car for my wife but wanting to see what they show for her pre-qualify. That said, do not want to waste a hard-pull on - 6388042.

Chase Auto gives a pre-qualification amount on a soft pull. Non binding, of course. The amounts it gives seem tiered and generic based on income input. Amex Blue Cash Preferred- $11,000. Chase Sapphire Preferred- $8,300. Chase Slate - $500 (transferred) Bank of America Cash Rewards - $10,600. Discover It - $11,000.

Approved/pre-qualified for 5 of them with explicit credit lines (ikea $6000, tempurpedic $3100), but when actually finishing, every single one said they were reviewing the app and will get back to me.
