The unit was re-formed at CFB Cold Lake on 2 May 1975 as 419 Tactical Fighter Training Squadron. It was disbanded in 1995 when the CF-5 aircraft were retired. The squadron was re-formed again at 4 Wing Cold Lake on 23 July 2000 to conduct advanced lead-in fighter training for Canadian and NATO pilots using nine CT-155 Hawk aircraft.
Initially established by Tactical Air Command as an F-105 training squadron in August 1967 as the provisional 4519th Combat Crew Training Squadron:. Re-designated as the AFCON 419th TFTS in October 1969, assuming the training mission of the provisional squadron.
The mission of the wing is to Fly, Fight and Win.To accomplish that mission, the wing trains and equips an F-16 squadron to be capable of worldwide mobility to perform a wide variety of air-to-air and air-to-ground fighter missions. 419th members are trained in a variety of specialties to include operations, maintenance, civil engineering, security, supply, transportation and communications.

The 419th is responsible for developmental testing of Northrop Grumman B-2 Spirit, Rockwell B-1 Lancer, and Boeing B-52 Stratofortress strategic bombers. It conducts tests to extend the usable life of these airframes, upgrade their combat capabilities, and integrate new weapons systems into their operation.
Activated on Guam on 31 January 1945. Assigned to Seventh Air Force. From late January 1945 to mid-February 1946 the 419th Troop Carrier Group's headquarters was assigned neither squadrons nor aircraft, but was composed primarily of a few detachments on Saipan, Tinian, Guam (all in the Mariana Islands), and Angaur (in the Palau Islands), the latter detachment moving to Iwo Jima in March 1945.
