The chronicles are thought to have been transferred to the British Museum after 19th century excavations in Babylon, and subsequently left undeciphered in the archives for decades. The first chronicle to be published was BM 92502 (ABC1) in 1887 by Theophilus Pinches under the title "The Babylonian Chronicle."
The Two Babylons, subtitled Romanism and its Origins, is a book that started out as a religious pamphlet published in 1853 by the Presbyterian Free Church of Scotland theologian Alexander Hislop (1807–65). Its central theme is the argument that the Catholic Church is the Babylon of the Apocalypse which is described in the Bible. [1]

The Book of the Kings of Israel is a non-canonical work referred to in the Hebrew Bible (e.g. 1 Chronicles 9:1–2). The King James Version of this passage reads: "So all Israel were reckoned by genealogies; and, behold, they were written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah, who were carried away to Babylon for their transgression.
In the Cyrus Cylinder there is a statement related to the Cyrus's edict which gives the historical background to the book of Ezra: [54] I returned the images of the gods, who had resided there [i.e., in Babylon], to their places and I let them dwell in eternal abodes.
