Brunswick was founded on January 1, 1815, and was named randomly in a naming contest after Brunswick, Germany. [6] It was incorporated as a village on February 1, 1960, and incorporated as a city on October 2, 1960. [7] On June 23, 2014 a tornado hit Brunswick, and the tornado was rated a high-end EF1 or EF2. These buildings were added to the National Register on November 17, 1982 as, "St. Boniface Roman Catholic Church, School, Rectory, and Convent of the Sister of the Precious Blood". [2] The records of St. Boniface, St. Nicholas and Ss. Peter & Paul were microfilmed by the Bowling Green State University Center for Archival Collections in 2001. [3]
The congregation was founded in 1881 as a mission of Ohio City, Cleveland's St. Mary's on-the-Flats to serve a growing German immigrant population on Cleveland's west side. The original church and school building were constructed in 1883 but burned on June 29, 1891, while the new building was under construction.
