Christian and Anna Keller Farmstead, also known as the Mel and Ruth Kohl Farmstead , is a historic home and farm located near Gerald, Franklin County, Missouri.The farmhouse was built by German immigrants between about 1855 and 1860, and is a 1 + 1 ⁄ 2-story banked brick dwelling.
Gerald was platted in 1901 along a railroad line. [4] The community was named after the local Fitzgerald family. [5] A post office called Gerald has been in operation since 1901. [6] The Christian and Anna Keller Farmstead and Old Gerald School are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. [7] [8]
Homestown, originally known as South Wardell, was one of ten communities constructed by the Farm Security Administration for displaced sharecroppers and tenant farmers following the January 1939 roadside sharecropper demonstration in Southeast Missouri. It was the largest of the communities and was designated for use by African-Americans.
