The Bellaire Bridge (now abandoned and closed) was filmed in the 1991 motion picture The Silence of the Lambs.

Belmont County is an Appalachian county in Southern Ohio, and as with many counties in this region was solidly Democratic from the Franklin D. Roosevelt administration through the 1990s.
