TikTok had revealed that it is working on a music app in the summer of 2022. At the time, Bytedance already had a music streaming service, Resso, running in India, Brazil, and Indonesia [3] since 2020. TikTok Music was first launched in Brazil and Indonesia in July 2023 [1] replacing Resso [4] (the app was banned in India).
