Grabouw (/ x r ʌ ˈ b oʊ / khrub-OH, [2] Afrikaans:) is a town located in the Western Cape province of South Africa. Grabouw is located some 65 km south-east of Cape Town , over Sir Lowry's Pass from Somerset West , along the N2 highway.

The entrance to the reserve is at Nuweberg, in Viljoen's Pass (R321) between Villiersdorp and Grabouw. An additional 7000 hectares of state and privale land adjacent to the reserve is co-managed by the Theewaterskloof Conservancy , which includes CapeNature and private landowners.
The largest town is Grabouw (pop. 44,593) in the Elgin Valley adjacent to the Hottentots-Holland on the north-western edge of the district. The municipal headquarters are located at Bredasdorp (pop. 12,749) in the southern part of the district.
Grabouw was created on the farm Grietjiesgat acquired on 22 November 1856 by Wilhelm Langschmidt, who named the place after Grabow, the village of his birth in Germany. Houwhoek Pass is a pass on the N2 national road between Grabouw and Botrivier in the Western Cape province of South Africa. [1] The pass is a dual carriageway and the summit is at 340m above sea level. The Overberg branch line as well as the gravel road of the old Houwhoek Pass are nearby, following a similar route but closer to the Jakkals River.
