The Cheltenham Township Police Department is a police department that operates under the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Montgomery County. It patrols the 9.0 square mile township of Cheltenham , which comprises Glenside , Elkins Park , Wyncote , La Mott , Melrose Park , Laverock and Cheltenham Village .
The force was founded in 1839, six hours after Wiltshire Constabulary, making it the second rural police force formed in Britain. [4] The force in its present form dates from 1 April 1974, when the southern part of Gloucestershire became part of the County of Avon and thus covered by the newly formed Avon and Somerset Constabulary.

Before his policing career, Geenty was a schoolteacher in Blackpool and Cheltenham. He has an MA in Criminology and Policing Studies from University of Exeter, and a Bachelor of Education from Saint Paul's College. In May 2015 Chief Constable Geenty retired from Wiltshire Police having completed 34 years of policing.
