The Jemez River runs through San Ysidro, just north of where the Rio Salado joins the Jemez River. The village has been a farming community since 1699 when Juan Trujillo established a settlement named for San Ysidro, or Saint Isidore the Farmer. The Village was incorporated in 1967. Cedar Canyon is a valley of the San Ysidro Mountains in San Diego County, California, [1] extending from the northern slopes of Otay Mountain in the south to Otay Lakes Road in the north. Part of it is in the Otay Mountain Wilderness .
The name "Otay" comes from the Kumeyaay word otai, which means "brushy". [3]On March 16, 1991, a Hawker Siddeley HS-125 airplane carrying seven members of singer Reba McEntire's band, plus her business manager and two pilots, crashed into the side of the mountain after taking off from nearby Brown Field Municipal Airport, killing all ten on board.
