CSU Global first opened in September 2008. CSU Global was legally sanctioned as a third, independent University on March 18, 2009, when Colorado’s Governor Ritter signed into law the State of Colorado Senate Bill 09-086 declaring the establishment of the CSU Global as an online university that is part of the Colorado State University System.
On April 6, 2015 Pingree Park was renamed Colorado State University Mountain Campus. This name change was brought about to better align the mountain campus with Colorado State University's other campus locations. Additionally, the name change was a conscious effort to separate the Mountain Campus and its land-grant mission from George Pingree.
Institutions already in the reclassification process may apply the new, shorter reclassification period, if they meet the new academic and scholarship requirements.
