Charles-François Daubigny (/ ˈ d oʊ b ɪ n j i / DOH-bin-yee, [1] US: / ˌ d oʊ b iː n ˈ j iː, d oʊ ˈ b iː n j i / DOH-been-YEE, doh-BEEN-yee, [2] [3] French: [ʃaʁl fʁɑ̃swa dobiɲi]; 15 February 1817 – 19 February 1878) was a French painter, one of the members of the Barbizon school, and is considered an important precursor of impressionism.
The Studio Boat (Le Bateau-atelier) is a painting from 1876 by the French Impressionist Claude Monet. The work depicts Monet at work in his studio boat on the Seine in Argentueil. [ 1 ] It was executed en plein air in oil on canvas.
The painting was created with short, thick brushstrokes, typical of Impressionism. [ 1 ] Monet painted The Beach at Honfleur in the summer of 1864, when he and Frédéric Bazille were staying at nearby Sainte-Adresse , where Monet's parents kept a summer house. [ 1 ]
