The first leg was hosted by Al-Ahly on 2 November 2018, while the second leg was hosted by Espérance de Tunis at the Stade Olympique de Radès in Radès on 9 November 2018. Espérance de Tunis won the final 4–3 on aggregate for their third CAF Champions League title.

Al Ahly won the African Cup of Champions Clubs in 1982 and 1987. Following the tournament's rebranding as the CAF Champions League, Al Ahly triumphed again in 2001, 2005, 2006 and 2008 under the coaching of the Portuguese Manuel José, [4] in 2012 under Hossam El-Badry, in 2013 under Mohamed Youssef, and in 2020 and 2021 under Pitso Mosimane.
The final was contested between Egyptian club Al Ahly and Moroccan club Wydad AC, which is a repeat of the 2022 CAF Champions League final, the second time in CAF Champions League history that two same clubs compete in the final of Champions League consecutively.
The final was contested in two-legged home-and-away format between Orlando Pirates of South Africa and Al-Ahly of Egypt. The first leg was hosted by Orlando Pirates at the Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg on 2 November 2013, while the second leg was hosted by Al-Ahly at the Osman Ahmed Osman Stadium in Cairo on 10 November 2013.
